Life Care Center of East
Ridge invites the community to participate in organ donor
signups, a blood drive and a miniature health fair event
on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 3–6 p.m.
Along with free blood pressure checks and other health
screenings, Blood Assurance will have a bloodmobile at the
facility, and a representative from Donor Services will be
available to sign attendees up to become organ donors.
“It’s important to let your wishes be known so the family
doesn’t have to make that decision,” said Dawn Benjamin,
senior public relations coordinator for Donor Services.
Benjamin explained that people interested in signing up on
the Tennessee donor registry can do so several ways. They
can indicate their preference when renewing their driver’s
license, online at tndonorregistry.org or coming by the
fair at Life Care Center of East Ridge.
“We will have information on what can be donated, how many
people are waiting for life-saving organs and how the
process works,” Benjamin said. “We will have a nurse from
Erlanger and a donor mother who has been through the
process who can answer questions.”
Representatives from the American Heart Association,
American Liver Foundation, Amercian Lung Association and
others will also be on-site to discuss how to protect
these organs and keep them healthy.
