Dixie Regional 17th Annual Family Health Fair

The Dixie Regional 17th Annual Family Health Fair will take place February 11 from 8:00AM to 1:00PM at the Dixie Regional Health & Performance Center, 652 South Medical Center Drive, (east of the River Road hospital).

“There is no admission charge for the fair, although some screenings do have a small fee to cover the cost of testing,” said Caitlyn O’Connell, event coordinator. “The health fair is offered so people can discover more about their personal health.” To help keep lines down the day of the fair, fees for the lab tests may be paid by cash, check or charge at the hospital cashier’s office during regular business hours on weekdays.

Screenings and assessments include lipid panel/cholesterol breakdown ($25 additional fee -- fast for at least 8 hours prior), body composition analysis, blood pressure and blood glucose testing, complete metabolic profile ($25 additional fee), colorectal kits ($3), foot & ankle screening, oximetry reading, painful joint screening (including arthritis), nutritional counseling, osteoporosis screening, dizziness testing, hearing testing, pediatric developmental screening, glaucoma, cataracts, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test ($15 additional fee), RESEP Clinic counsel for Downwinders, skin cancer screening, speech services, stroke assessment, wound consultations, and more. Southwest Utah Public Health Department, Southwest Prevention, family medicine, genetics counseling and lactation services also offer services and information.

Many family friendly services are part of the fair, including a Teddy Bear Clinic. Children can bring their favorite doll or teddy bear and help nurses with routine check-up procedures. The Teddy Bear Clinic shows children that the hospital and the doctor’s office are caring places where they can receive comfort when they are sick. Other family friendly booths include Intermountain Healthcare’s “LiVe” program display, Growing Healthy Kids, Southwest Prevention, and safety displays.

“The health fair would not be possible without the dedicated people who give their Saturday to staff the screenings,” O’Connell said. “They put in a lot of work and we’re thankful for their efforts.”
